The HEUS – Hub of the EU Solutions grant project, which operates on the basis of the National University of Ostroh Academy, continues to hold guest lectures for students in the field of European studies.
On 16 April, the National University of Ostroh Academy welcomed guests and participants to an online event organised within the framework of the HEUS – Hub of the EU Solutions grant project aimed at promoting cooperation and knowledge exchange in the field of European integration and law.
A guest lecture by Narine Ghazaryan, Associate Professor of International and European Law at Radboud University (the Netherlands), on ‘Environmental Protection in the EU’, created a unique opportunity for students not only to gain new knowledge about environmental protection in the EU, but also to practice English in a professional context.
During the event, more than 70 participants from various academic groups gathered, including students, teachers and colleagues from other universities. The speaker discussed a number of main topics that are important for understanding the role and activity of the European Union in the field of environmental protection, namely:
1. Overview of the EU’s environmental competence: Narine Ghazaryan analyzed in detail the scope and nature of the European Union’s competence in the field of ecology. In particular, she examined the legal and institutional mechanisms that allow the EU to intervene in the issue of environmental protection at various levels.
2. Examples of material and legal acts: the speaker gave specific examples of normative and legal acts of the European Union aimed at protecting the environment and regulating environmental issues. This allowed participants to get concrete illustrations and examples of how EU legislation affects the practical sphere of environmental protection.
3. Environmental protection in the external relations of the EU: one of the main topics of the lecture was the aspect of environmental protection in the external relations of the European Union. The participants got an idea of how the EU interacts with other countries and international organizations to ensure environmental sustainability and preserve natural resources at the global level.
At the end of the meeting, everyone could ask questions to the speaker and receive thorough and comprehensive answers.
Already on April 23, we met at the 2nd online lecture “The EU as an external actor”.
In our world, understanding the role of global players is crucial. That is why, while we have analyzed in detail the position of the European Union as an external actor, from its diplomatic efforts to its influence on international politics, this lecture promises to shed light on the influence of the EU beyond its borders.
“The European Green Deal” was the topic of the final lecture held on April 30.
The importance of such lectures cannot be overestimated, as they not only expand the horizons of students’ knowledge, but also stimulate critical thinking and analysis of the problems of the modern world. The exchange of experience and information between participants from different countries and academic environments contributes to the development of global understanding and contributes to the formation of international relations. At the end of the event, the importance of such initiatives and the work started within the framework of the HEUS project was emphasized. This project has great potential for promoting the exchange of ideas and cooperation between universities, which will contribute to the enrichment of the academic environment based on the Ostroh Academy National University and the development of the European community.
