On July 11, 2025, a webinar was held on the topic «The Rule of Law in the EU: Legal Doctrine and Its Relation to the National Legal System», organised by the Kharkiv Regional Branch of the National School of Judges of Ukraine in collaboration with the Training Laboratory for the Study of EU Law.
This event aimed to enhance the understanding of European legal principles among judges, judicial assistants, and court administrative staff. Participants focused particularly on the doctrine of the rule of law in the European Union and its impact on national judicial practice.
The webinar was conducted by Olha Balatska, a judge of the Rivne City Court and the author of the project HUB of the EU Solutions. In her lecture, she presented key aspects of the interaction between EU law and national legal systems, explained the content of the principle of the rule of law in the EU, and discussed approaches to the protection of fundamental rights in the practice of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
During the event, participants had the opportunity to discuss practical cases, analyse the rulings of the Court of Justice of the EU, and ask questions regarding the application of European norms in national courts.
Ukraine is gradually adapting its legislation to EU standards. And although EU law is not yet formally part of the Ukrainian legal system, its influence is growing. For the judiciary, this means the need to understand the basic principles of EU law, comprehend their content, and be able to navigate the practices of European judicial institutions.
The HUB of the EU Solutions supports such educational initiatives and advocates for a consistent integration of the European approach into Ukrainian law enforcement.
